چکیده

In this paper, we consider a biologically-inspired Boolean function P D that models a simple task of detecting global spatial patterns on a twodimensional map. We prove that P D is computable by a threshold circuit of size (i.e., number of gates) O( √ n logn), which is an improvement on the previous upper bound O(n), while our circuit has larger depth O( √ n) and total wire length O(n log n). Moreover, we demonstrate that the size of our circuit is nearly optimal up to a logarithmic factor: we show that any threshold circuit computing P D has size Ω( √ n/ logn). Efficient Analysis of Plasmonic circuits using Differential Global Surface Impedance (DGSI) Model

Differential global surface impedance (DGSI) model, a rigorous approach, has been applied to the analysis of three dimensional plasmonic circuits. This model gives a global relation between the tangential electric field and the equivalent surface electric current on the boundary of an object. This approach helps one bring the unknowns to the boundary surface of an object and so avoid volumetric...

Detecting Patterns Can Be Hard: Circuit Lower Bounds for the Pattern Matching Problem

Detecting patterns in strings and images is a fundamental and widely studied problem. Motivated by the proliferation of specialized circuits in pattern recognition tasks, we study the circuit complexity of pattern matching under two popular choices of gates: De Morgan and threshold gates. For strings of length n and patterns of length log n k ≤ n− o(n), we prove super polynomial lower bounds fo...

Detecting disparity in two-dimensional patterns

One can measure the disparities between two retinal images in several different ways. Experiments were conducted to identify the measure that is invariant at the threshold for detecting the disparity of two-dimensional patterns. The patterns used were stereo plaids, which permit a partial dissociation between the disparity of the pattern and the disparities of its one-dimensional components. Fo...

WHO global atlas on traditional, complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM)

Due to rising demand for traditional complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM) globally, international ministerial groups and professional bodies have been calling for a global perspective on policy and a means for countries to share information and policy initiatives with one another. The WHO Global Atlas is designed to: assess the status of development of the sector; plan for further deve...
